MP Bodi gets 3-yr jail

DHAKA: Ruling Awami League lawmaker from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency Abdur Rahman Bodi was sentenced to three years imprisonment for amassing illegal wealth and hiding the information.

The court of third special judge of Dhaka Abu Ahmed Jamadar pronounced the verdict in presence of Bodi around 11:15 am.

The court also fined the convict Tk 10-lakh, in default, three months’ jail.

Earlier on August 21 of 2014, anti corruption commission (ACC) deputy-director Abdus Sobhan filed the lawsuit with Ramna police station in Dhaka.

According to the case statement, Bodi submitted false statement about his wealth to the election commission before the general elections in 2008 and 2013.

He had hidden the information about the wealth of Tk 10.87 crore and showed Tk 1.98 crore extra value of low cost assets.
