DHAKA: BNP announced a two-day program to mark the 40th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani that falls on November 17.

Party vice-chairman and also anniversary observance sub-committee convener Shamsuzzaman Dudu made the announcement in a press conference at its Nayapaltan office in city on Sunday (November 13).

The two-day program will start with a meeting at National Press Club in city on November 16.

Party men, headed by its vice-chairman Abdullah Al-Noman, will visit Maulana Bhashani’s tomb in Tangail district on the following day. They will also place floral wreath at the tomb, and arrange doa-mahfil and discussion.

Dudu further said that Maulana Bhashani was the founder of Awami League (AL) and also of Bangla daily Dainik Ittefaq. But both AL and Ittefaq authorities deny his contribution. “We demand to pay due respect to this great leader,” he added.

According to the BNP leader, deleting this true chapter from country’s history will not end happily.

BNP chairperson’s advisory council members Abdus Salam and Ataur Rahman Dhali, joint-organizing secretary Abdus Salam Azad and Ulama Dal president Abdul Maleq, among others, were present at the conference.
