SC stays Manna’s bail

DHAKA: The appellate division of Supreme Court (SC) has stayed the High Court (HC) bail of Nagorik Oikko convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna in a case of provoking the armed forces.

The appellate division headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha on Monday (November 14) suspended the bail order and adjourned the hearing until November 27 in response to a petition filed by the state.

Earlier on Thursday (November 10), a High Court bench comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice M Atatur Rahman passed the bail order of Manna.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna went missing in 2015 after the release of two audio clips containing conversations between Manna, BNP vice-chairman Sadek Hossain Khoka and another unidentified person about a conspiracy to topple the government by provoking army.

Two days later on February 24, police announced Manna’s arrest at a press conference.

Later on March 05, a sedition case was filed with city’s Gulshan Thana.

In response of a bail petition on those two cases, the HC issued a rule on March 21.

After the hearing of sedition case, the HC granted bail of Manna on August 30.
