DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called for a consensual, not controversial Election Commission (EC) for the upcoming general election.   

She made the remarks at a press conference in a city hotel on Friday (November 18).

She also proposed some proposals outlining the formation of New EC and qualification for appointing new Chief Election Commissioner.
 
Terming the current Election Commission (EC) controversial, Khaleda Zia stated that the local and national elections held in past few years have created public distrust on the organization.

“People were outraged for not being able to vote in the last elections. They demand a free, fair and impartial election this time. So there is no alternative of an honest, efficient and powerful EC to ensure that”, the BNP chief added.
