DHAKA: Once again the High Court (HC) took out bail plea of ruling Awami League (AL) lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency Amanur Rahman Khan Rana from cause list on Monday (November 28) in the freedom fighter Faruq Ahmed murder case.
An HC bench comprising Justice Syed Mohammad Dastagir Hossain and Justice M Ataur Rahman Khan pronounced the order.
Abdul Baset Majumder was the defence lawyer while deputy attorney general Dr M Bashir Ullah was the prosecutor.
Later, Bashir Ullah said the plea was taken out of the list following the defense party’s plea with the court as it denied granting bail to the lawmaker.
Earlier on October 9, the bail plea was not placed before the HC vacation bench of Justice M Abu Zafar Siddiqui and Justice Khizir Ahmed Chowdhury.
On January 18, 2013, AL Tangail district committee unit member Faruq Ahmed was shot dead. Later, a case was filed in this regard.
On February 3 in 2016, police submitted chargesheet against 14 including MP Rana and his three brothers.
Later on September 18, Rana surrendered to the judicial court. Currently, he is in Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur.
