BNP urges President to raise delegation member

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) urged the President Abdul Hamid to include three more members in its delegation that will meet the president in Bangabhaban over Election Commission (EC) formation.

Competent party sources said its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued a letter to the president in this regard on Thursday (December 15) alongside the list of delegation members.

BNP’s assistant office secretaries Belal Ahmed, Munir Hossain and Taiful Islam Tipu carried the letter and the list to Bangabhaban on the day.

Earlier, President Abdul Hamid invited five political parties, including BNP, to discuss over forming the EC.

He will hold meetings with the BNP delegation on December 18, with Jatiya Party on December 20, with LDP and Krishak Sramik Janata League on December 21 and with Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) on December 22.

Besides, he would hold meetings with other registered parties gradually.

Khaleda Zia will lead the BNP delegation in talks. Other members of the delegation includes party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Tariqul Islam, Dr Moin Khan, Mahbubur Rahman, Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Earlier on November 18, BNP chairperson presented a 13-point proposal to form EC for a free and fair election.

Current EC will complete its term in February of 2017.
