MUNSHIGANJ: A local Awami League activist, who went missing following a clash between two factions of the ruling party in Munshiganj Sadar upazila, was found dead on Saturday (January 06).
Police recovered the body from the Meghna River at Choitar Char village under Mollakandi of the upazla at about 1:00 pm.
The deceased is Manik Kazi , 50, inhabitant of the village. He was an activist of Awami League.
Chairman of Mollakandi Union Parishad Muhsina Haque Kolpona said that Manik Kazi went missing after the factional clash. Injury marks were found in his body.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Munshiganj DB police Yunus Ali also confirmed the matter.
At least seven people were shot and two others were injured in a clash between the two factions of Awami League at Mollakandi Union on January 03. Several houses were also vandalized during the clash. A foreign pistol was also recovered from the spot.
The supporters of UP chairman Muhsina Haque Kolpona and former chairman of the UP and Sadar upazila AL unit Joint Secretary Ripon Patwary engaged in the clash over establishing supremacy.
