Two AL men killed in Patuakhali factional clash 

 

PATUAKHALI: Two activists of local Awami League (AL) were killed and several injured as two groups of the party’s local unit clashed over establishing supremacy in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali on Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Ruman Talukder (33), vice-president of the union unit of Jubo League, and Riyad Hossain (24), an activist of the union unit of Swechhasebak League.

Police arrested four suspects for their alleged involvement in this clash.

According to locals and police, the casualties were happened when followers of Saleh Uddin Piku, president of Keshabpur union Awami League unit and Mohiuddin Lavlu, general secretary and also the running UP chairman locked into a fierce clash on Sunday evening.

Mahfuzur Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Patuakhali, said two persons critically injured in the clash. 

Later, locals rescued them and took them to Bauphal Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared both dead, he added.
