BNP leader Ishraque acquitted in ACC case

A Dhaka court on Monday acquitted BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, a mayoral candidate of the last Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election, in a (non-submission) case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-4 passed the acquittal order in presence of Ishraque.

Earlier on January 14 this year, the same court framed charges in the case and initiated trial proceedings.

Testimony began on March 3. A total of six out of eight witnesses testified in the case. On November 11, court fixed November 23 for delivering verdict after concluding arguments from the prosecution and defence.

On September 1, 2008, ACC served a notice to Ishraque, son of former Dhaka city mayor late Sadeque Hossain Khoka, to submit his wealth information to the anti-graft body.

As he did not comply with the notice, former assistant director Shamsul Alam of the ACC filed a case against Ishraque with Ramna police station on August 29, 2010.

On December 6, 2018, ACC submitted the charge-sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The case was later transferred to Dhaka's Special Judge's Court-4 for trial.
