DHAKA: Activists of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, brought out brisk processions and blasted couple of cocktails and clashed with police in capital’s Shyampur and Madartek areas on Sunday morning.  

Law enforcers, however, nabbed at least eight activists of Chhatra Shibir for their involvement in the hartal violence from the two spots.

In Shyampur, Shibir activists brought out a procession in support of hartal in Shyampur area at around 8am. Later, being obstructed by law enforcers, Shibir activists exploded cocktail.

In retaliation, police threw tear shells and rubber bullet to disperse them that triggered a clash, said witnesses.

Police, however, held four Shibir activists from the spot.

The detainees are Maynul Hassan Heera, Mahbub Alam, Farid Hawlader, Billal Hosssain.                                                                                                                

Shyampur Thana Office-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rashid confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On the other hand, Shibir men took out pro-hartal procession in city’s Madartek area at around 8:30am and blasted seven cocktails.

Law enforcers held four Shibir men from the spot.

Sabujbagh thana officer-in-charge Babul Mia told banglanews, “The detainees are being interrogated. Later, legal steps will be taken against them.”

Jamaat-e-Islami is observing dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country on Sunday protesting the execution of war crimes convict Quader Mollah.
