The High Court on Tuesday (Jan 17) directed the Election Commission (EC) to allow Ashraful Hossain alias Hero Alom to contest for the upcoming by-polls for the Bogura-4 and Bogura-6 constituencies as an independent candidate.

The HC bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir Lytton passed the order after hearing two writ petitions filed by Hero Alom.

Earlier, Hero Alom filed an appeal to the HC to direct the EC to accept his nomination papers and allow him to contest the elections to be held on February 1.

Earlier, the EC announced the cancellation of Hero Alam's nomination papers.
