Jamaat-cop clash hurt 35 in Sylhet

SYLHET: at least 35 people were injured in a clash between Jamaat-Shibir men and law enforcers in Bianibazar upazila of the district on Thursday, the third day of the 71-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance.  

Witnesses said Jamaat—Shibir men brought out a pro-blockade procession from South Bazar of upazila sadar at around 9:30am. Being obstructed by police, blockade supporters hurled brick-chips and opened fire aiming them.

In retaliation, police fired 45 rounds of bullets from shotgun and rubber bullets o bring the situation under control.
The Shibir men also vandalized 10 shops.

Bianibazar thana officer-incharge Abul Kalam Azad said Jamaat-Shibir men from the procession attacked on police. The process is underway to file case in this connection.
