Bashundhara Group has supported many girls and women like Rupali, Sweety and Rupa to fulfill their cherished dream to become ‘self-reliant’.
Sweety grew up amid economic hardship as her father earned bread for them working as a day labourer. Being the eldest daughter of the family, she didn’t get much opportunity to study.
At the age of 16, Sweety got married. Going to husband's house, she has no respite from poverty. Husband Abdul Razzaq works in a brick kiln. They live in a tiny room. Sweety’s husband makes bricks with his own hands. But they are not lucky to live in that brick house.
Sweety had a little knowledge of sewing. However, she had forgotten the skill for lack of practice. Once, she learned that Shuvosangho will provide sewing training under patronage of Bashundhara Group. The trainees were supported to get sewing machine free of cost. Sweety got enrolled into the training centre and learnt tailoring.
Regarding the experience, Sweety said parents could not afford her education due to poverty. “I was subjected to child marriage due to financial hardship of family and could not continue study. The hardship is my constant companion at husband’s home too. Sometimes, I also worked as a labourer. There is no job security in the brickyard,” she said.
With a dream of becoming self-reliant, Sweety came to Shuvosangho training center and learnt sewing.
The dreamful girl also received the sewing machine from Bashundhara Group.
“Now, I will be able to arrange the cost of my children's education with the money earned by sewing. This sewing machine is now my go-to tool. Deprived of education myself, I will educate my children,” Sweety said expressing gratitude to Bashundhara Group for guiding her family to be self-reliant. Farida is a resident of Katla Daudpur in Birampur upazila. Her family is comprised of her husband, children and mother-in-law. Due to poverty, she could not send his children to school. She worked at people's homes under compulsion.
Later, Farida learnt to sew on her own initiative. But she could not buy her own sewing machine. Receiving commercial orders, she got clothes sewn at other’s houses and tried to pursue the education of the children.
Her husband Motaleb has to struggle to run a family of six members with what he earns from driving autos.
Knowing that sewing training will be offered by Shuvosangho, she enrolled to sharpen her tailoring knowledge. It was a surprise for Farida to get a sewing machine from Bashundhara Group.
Regarding the experience, Farida said training from Shuvosangho will help me fulfill longstanding dream to become self-reliant. Bashundhara Group has also fulfilled my craving for a sewing machine.
“No worries now. I can teach children safely. Thanks to Bashundhara,” she said.
Although Rupa Moni is young, she dreams about touching the sky. Rupa, the eldest daughter of the family, is very dear to her father. She wants to be a doctor when he grows up. Father Rashidul Islam is an auto driver. In a family of constant need, intention to be a doctor is like a nightmare.
Rupa Moni is busy with studying day and night to make that nightmare a reality. She must be a doctor to overcome the hardship of her family. Rashidul Islam is in a fix to fulfill his daughter's dream by driving an auto-rickshaw. She said her father tries to render her studies unaffected and puts heart and soul into materialising dreams.
“My father is struggling to make us happy. I want to grow up and stand by my father and family at large. So, I have a plan to do something alongside my studies. One day, my father informed me of Bashundhara Group supported sewing training. And I got enrolled into the training centre and learnt sewing,” she said.
Rupa is now confident about helping her father and continuing study due to the training and sewing machines.
“With the help of Bashundhara Group, I have taken a step towards fulfilling my dream. As Bashundhara works for the welfare of the country and people, I also want to grow up and work for the welfare of the country,” she said.
