SATKHIRA: The employees at Bhomra land port called off their strike on Friday noon, but trans-border trading on the route was yet to resume.

The announcement was made at about 12:30pm after a meeting among Bhomra C&F Agents Association, Labourers’ Association and Transport Association.

In protest against BDR action on an Indian truck driver and seizure of imported fabrics, the workers enforced the strike on Wednesday morning.

General Secretary of Bhomra C&F Agents Association Kazi Nowshad Delwar Razu told banglaNews24.com.bd that BDR has returned the seized goods and released the Indian truck driver.

“The workers joined their regular duty as the strike was withdrawn, but export-import operations were yet to resume as Friday is weekend holiday,” said another source.
 
Over 400 goods-laden trucks remained stranded on the Indian side of Ghojadanga due to the land-port strike.

Bhomra land port Customs super Hassan Morshed said that export-import operations were suspended following the strike, but government offices were open.  

Sources said imported Indian synthetic fabrics-laden two trucks came to Bhomra port on Tuesday evening. BDR seized the two trucks at night and took the lorries to Satkhira BDR headquarters. In protest, the workers enforced the strike.
