Hasina's dictatorship destroyed all institutions

Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday (August 18) said former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s dictatorship has destroyed every institution of the country.

The diplomats of various countries and organizations were briefed in Dhaka at the Intercontinental Hotel.

The judiciary has been broken, he said while briefing diplomats.

The Chief Adviser said he has taken up the responsibility at the request of the students. He paid deep respect to those who made supreme sacrifices in the recent student movement.

The briefing began at the Inter-Continental Hotel at around 1 pm.

Dr. Yunus told the diplomats that the aim of this government is to hold transparent elections. But before that, the government wants to reform in all areas, he added.

The Chief Adviser also said that the government now wants to restore law and order quickly.

Besides, he welcomed the United Nations investigation into the incidents of people killed during the movement in July to August.

The Chief Adviser said he wants an impartial investigation into the incident. The Bangladesh government will assist the United Nations in the investigation.

Dr. Yunus said that the government will implement all the agreements Bangladesh has with international organizations.

He also sought cooperation from diplomats in the repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingya from Myanmar.

This was the first briefing by the Chief Adviser to diplomats stationed in Dhaka since the interim government's inception.
