RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: Authorities concerned of the university on Saturday postponed the implementation of imposing additional fees amid protests.
The university administration also urged the students to go back to their classes.
Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Muhammad Mizanuddin made the assertion in a press conference at the Senate Building at 12:00 noon.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Registrar Professor Sayem Uddin, Proctor Professor Tariqul Hasan and student affairs adviser Professor Sadekul Arefin Matin were among others present at the press meet.
VC said it was an academic decision to open evening course at the university. For a while, these courses are underway in various faculties of different public universities in the country.
But, students were given misinformation from a faculty of the university, he added.
Professor Mizanuddin also said due to the increasing demand of higher education, it was a decision to open masters’ courses in evening. The authorities implemented the decision only.
Meanwhile, the protesting students said postponement of taking extra fees is a camouflage of the university administration and they will continue their movements until the demands are met.
Meanwhile, Deans of Social Sciences faculty decided to suspend classes and examinations for indefinite from Sunday as students locked the entrances of all academic buildings from 7:00am Saturday.
Social Science faculty’s Dean Ansar Uddin confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Students were staging protest processions and various kinds of movements from January 19 to withdraw extra fees and stop evening programs.
They called for an indefinite strike from Saturday as they did not reach to a consensus after holding several meetings with university administration.
