The High Court (HC) today (Sep 30) ordered to remove Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from murder investigation of Journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Runi.

At this time the court has ordered to form a high level task force under Ministry of Home Affairs to carry out the investigation.

The order was issued on Monday by a High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub ul Islam.

HC also fixed April 6, 2025, for the task force to submit the report.

Sagar Sarwar, the news editor of Maasranga Television, and his wife, Mehrun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were brutally murdered on the night of February 11, 2012, in their rented apartment in West Rajabazar, Dhaka. 

Following the murder, Runi's brother, Nowsher Ali Roman, filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on February 12, 2012.
