Pakistan foreign minister's Dhaka visit postponed

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has postponed his planned visit to Bangladesh, originally scheduled for April 27–28, due to unforeseen circumstances, an official from the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka confirmed on Thursday.

New dates for the visit will be decided through mutual consultations, the official added, without providing further details.

Mr Dar was expected in Dhaka on a two-day official trip, following recent diplomatic engagement between the two South Asian nations.

The visit was publicly disclosed on April 17 by Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin during a media briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after bilateral talks with his Pakistani counterpart.

Those foreign secretary-level talks, held at the Padma State Guest House in Dhaka, were the first in 15 years between the two countries.

Bangladesh's delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin, while Amna Baloch represented Pakistan.

During her stay, Ms Baloch also met Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Her arrival in Dhaka on Wednesday marked a cautious diplomatic thaw after years of limited official engagement between the two nations.
