The Department of Health Service on Sunday released the draft list of 735 people killed during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement in July and August.

The preliminary list of the deceased has been published on the department's website based on the information received from various public and private hospitals, authorities said.

If information on the list is incomplete or incorrect, the government has urged relatives of the victims to contact authorities to correct the information.

Apart from this, if the names of any of the victims are not included in the list, their legal heirs or representatives have been advised to contact their respective district civil surgeon or upazila health and family planning officer.

It was known that there is confusion over the number of deaths during the recent mass movement.

As a result, the government took the initiative to draw up a list to find out the actual number of victims. The list shows the information of 735 victims so far.

Earlier on 24 September, the Health Ministry published a draft list of 708 people killed in the student-led movement and asked for applications for corrections.

Following corrections, the preliminary list has included 27 more individuals, as per the details published on the website of the Health Services Department.

Earlier, the Central Subcommittee on Health Affairs of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Platform said that around 1,581 people died and 31 thousand people were injured in the movement.

However, the information of the injured and the dead will be further verified, the Central Subcommittee on Health Affairs of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Platform told reporters.

Meanwhile, Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmin S Murshid said on Sunday that a total of 105 children were killed during the July uprising.

During a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday, she announced that each affected family would receive Tk50,000 as compensation.

The monetary grant and a certificate will be distributed on World Children's Day, today, among families of the deceased children—those under 18 years of age.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

Additionally, Murshid noted that Tk82,70,898 has been allocated to assist students injured during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement through the Social Service Office and the Upazila Patient Welfare Association.

The ministry is also in the process of securing $5 million from the World Bank to fund rehabilitation and treatment for those affected by the uprising.

Furthermore, she said the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs currently operates 12 day care centres and is advocating for the establishment of day care facilities in all government institutions by June 2026.

The government is also exploring the possibility of introducing private sector day cares to enhance employment opportunities and provide essential services.
