Murder case filed against Sheikh Hasina, 129 others

A murder case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 129 others over the killing of a businessman Jalal Uddin during the anti-discrimination student movement.

The case was filed by the victim’s wife, Moli, on Sunday (Nov 24) at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate Belal Hossain.

The court accepted the statement of the plaintiff and directed the Mugda Police Station to register the complaint as a formal case.

The other accused in the case include Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Fazle Nur Taposh, former Education Minister Mohibul Haque Nawfel, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former State Minister Junayed Ahmed Palak, former State Minister Mohammad Ali Arafat, former Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, former MP Kazi Firoz Rashid, Saeed Khokon, Awami League Presidium Member Kamrul Islam, Law Secretary Kazi Nazibullah Hiru, Youth League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, IGP of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, and DIG of Dhaka Range Syed Nurul Islam.

The complaint alleges that during the anti-discrimination movement on July 20, clashes took place between police, Chhatra League, Awami League, and students in the Maniknagar area under Mugda Police Station. Jalal Uddin, who was selling food on the footpath, was shot in the head and died on the spot around 7 pm.
