Six reform commissions to publish reports on Feb 8

Legal Adviser Asif Nazrul said that the reform commissions will officially release their reports on February 8.

He said on the same day, the National Consensus Commission will begin its work.

Speaking at a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday (February 4) evening, Dr. Asif Nazrul said the decision was made after a meeting between the heads of six key commissions and Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the National Consensus Commission and the Interim Government.

He said that the six commissions will publish their full reports, outlining immediate, medium-term, and long-term plans. These reports will be reviewed to determine future election procedures and post-election measures. The reports will also be sent to all political parties and groups involved in the July uprising.

Dr. Nazrul said that after discussions with political parties and those supporting the July uprising, the first meeting of the National Consensus Commission would take place. This meeting is expected to be held in mid-February, with the exact date to be decided through consultations.

When asked about constitutional changes, he clarified that no discussions have been held on abolishing or rewriting the constitution. The work of the six commissions will conclude on February 8, after which the National Consensus Commission will begin. Members of this new commission will not be heads of the reform commissions but will serve as part of the national body.

Regarding constitutional decisions, he said political parties will discuss and determine the process for reaching a consensus. If parties agree on amendments, they could be approved through a Constituent Assembly election held alongside the national election.

The briefing was attended by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mojumdar.
