Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has urged the Election Commission (EC) not to hold elections until the government completes its ongoing reform initiatives.
Following a meeting with the EC at the Election Bhaban on Thursday (February 13), the party secretary general Professor Mia Golam Parwar spoke to reporters, underscoring the need for comprehensive electoral reforms before proceeding with any polls.
He said "We had constructive discussions aimed at ensuring free, fair, and credible elections. A written proposal outlining our concerns and recommendations has been submitted. The meeting took place in a sincere and cordial atmosphere, and the EC has expressed satisfaction with the dialogue."
Parwar also said that the discussions covered both the capabilities and limitations of the electoral process, with 23 specific issues being addressed during the meeting.
