DHAKA: Customs officials seized 30 gold bars weighing three kilograms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital early Sunday.

A passenger was arrested on charge of carrying gold illegally.

The officials recovered the three kilograms of gold bar worth about TK 1.35 crore from the possession of the detainee, said Moinul Islam, director general of customs’ intelligence.

Noticing suspicious movement of the passengers, the officials searched him and found gold bars inside his shoes, he said.

We suspect that the gold bars were smuggled from Dubai, the official said.

The detainee was handed over to airport thana, the DG added.
