Bangladesh's capital Dhaka ranked 10th among cities with the worst air quality on Sunday morning, recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 103 at 9:40am, according to global air monitoring data.

The air was categorized as ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’, posing health concerns especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues. Just days earlier, the city had experienced moderately improved air quality.

Chile’s Santiago topped the list with an AQI of 159, followed by Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (158) and Delhi, India (121).

The AQI in Bangladesh measures five pollutants: PM10, PM2.5, NO₂, CO, SO₂, and ozone. Dhaka, often plagued by air pollution, typically sees its worst air quality during the dry winter months and slight improvement during the monsoon season.
