DHAKA: Bangladesh Railway (BR) suffered a damage of some TK70 crores due to countrywide violence that spread out following the verdict against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayadee in the war crimes case.
Railway Minister Mazibul Hoque made the disclosure at a ceremony for handing over Treasury Bond to the family of dead Railway security guard Abul Kashem at Abdul Goni Road in the city on Wednesday.
The minster handed over the bond worth TK 3 lakhs to Bulbuli Akter, wife of Kashem, who was killed in bomb explosion at Kamlapur rail station on December 29, 2013, and bond worth TK 3 lakhs to Rubia Begum, mother of Kashem.
Railway secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Railway director general (DG) Tafazal Hossain, joint DG (operation) Sardar Sahadat Ali, among others, were present at the function.
