DHAKA: Ministry of Communication, Bangladesh Road Transportation Authority (BRTA) and Traffic Division of DMP are going to start a drive to exile illegal and old vehicles from Thursday to reduce traffic jams and frequent road accidents in the city. The drive will continue until August 31 of this year.

Buses, minibuses over 20 years old and trucks, covered vans over 25 years will be driven out of the streets and mobile courts will take actions against illegal vehicles. Recently BRTA has made a list of 80,615 vehicles with no fitness.

A total 15 mobile courts with one magistrate, one sergeant and five constables (SAF) in each team will conduct their drive. The drive zones are divided into four parts – traffic north, south, east and west.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Meer Ziaul Haque and Deputy Commissioners of related areas will supervise the drive.

Joint Commissioner of DMP (traffic) Safiqur Rahaman told banglanews24.com.bd that orders are passed to take strict actions against the  illegal drivers and vehicles owners.
He also said that 15 magistrates have already been appointed under Dhaka Deputy Commissioner for the drive.
Two additional magistrates of BRTA will also go for a drive. Police will cooperate to make the drive successful, Safiqur Rahaman added.

A ‘dumping station’ is made on the east side of kanchpur bridge for the tow-away vehicles. Mobile courts will monitor all the entrance and exit points of the city for old vehicles.
