2 sisters gang-raped in Sylhet

SYLHET: Two sisters were gang-raped at their house in Hajrapara village under Beanibazar upazila of the district on early Sunday, police said.

The sisters, who passed the Higher Secondary Certificate examinations this year, are undergoing treatment at the one-stop crisis centre (OCC) in Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Police, quoting the family members, said, “The tragedy took place when a masked gang of 7/8, entered the house by creating a tunnel at 4:00am, and tied their parents with ropes at gunpoint.”

“The evildoers, then, raped the girls in front of their parents and left the house,” said according to police.

Hearing the family members’ hue and cry, neighbors came forward for help and informed the police. Later, police took the sister to the hospital.

Beanibazar Thana Sub-Inspector Johir Ali said, “The sisters were sent to the OCC, and process is going on to file a case in this connection.”

Local upazila and union parishad chairmen visited the spot and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
