Sacrilege of Islam: HC stays cases against Shibir leaders

DHAKA: The High Court Sunday stayed for two months all proceedings of two cases filed against two Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders on charges of sacrilege of Islam.

 

The accused are Dhaka Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir leader Md Yeahia and former Shibir president Shafiqul Islam Masud.

 

An HC bench comprising Justice Md Dastagir Hossain and Justice AKM Jahirul Haque passed the order of stay.

Moreover, the court issued a rule upon government to explain within three weeks why the cases “should not be scrapped”.

One Moulana Rezaul Haque Chandpuri filed the case with Dhaka and Chandpur lower courts against Yeahia and Masud.

 

Barrister Abdur Razzak and Khndaker Mahbub Hossain fought for the Shibir leaders while Deputy Attorney-General MK Rahman Sarker for the government side.
