DHAKA: The Detective Branch of Police (DB) is investigating into the recent remarks of the moderators of Islamic programs of different televisions over the murder of Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi.

Considering the allegation of Faruqi family and leaders of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat, the elite forces are looking into the case.

DB Deputy Police Commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam made the disclosure while briefing reporters in capital’s DB office on Sunday.

Nazmul Alam said they demanded seven-day remand of two detainees Mahmuda and Sharif suspected in the killing case.

A senior official of DB said family members of the slain TV anchor alleged that they did not filed any case though some miscreants threatened Faruqi several times.

DB police will gather all information from the family members, the officer added.

Replying to a query, Nazmul Alam said, “We are inquiring about the details of the murder to dig out the objectives and culprits of the case. Besides, Faruqi’s family member gave some suspects name.”

On August 27 night, some unidentified miscreants slaughtered Faruqi at his East Raza Bazar residence in the city.

Meanwhile, victim’s son Faisal Faruqi filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana early Thursday in this connection.

Ahle Sunnat Jamaat declared several programs protesting the killing.

Besides this, Islami Chhatra Sena called a hartal for Sunday.
