Friends raise money to send Rafiqul’s body home

DHAKA: Friends have raised fund to send Rafiqul Islam’s body back to his family in Bangladesh.

Rafiqul Islam, 27, was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Regina, Canada last week.

His friends said that he moved to Regina from Bangladesh three years ago for a better life.

He was struck and killed in a hit-and-run on his way to celebrate Eid.

One of his friends Mohammad Hasan said, “We really want to help his family.”

He added: “His mother right now is crying 24/7. She says ‘I don’t want anything, I don’t want money, I just want my son back.”

Another friend of the ill fated victim Mohammad Ruhul Amin said that Rafiqul Islam was about to go back to his home country for a visit at the end of the month.

Amin and Hasan are hoping to raise $15,000 to $20,000.

They said they have been overwhelmed with support from the local Islamic community.

However, police are still looking for a dark colored Ford Escape in connection with the hit-and-run.
