DHAKA: Under the influence of coast crossing of very severe cyclonic storm ‘Hudhud’, deep convection is taking place over north of the Bay of Bengal.

Gusty or squally weather may continue over north of Bay, coastal area and maritime ports of Bangladesh, said Meteorological Department on Sunday.

A special bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said that maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no. ‘Three’.

Under the influence of this cyclonic storm the low-lying areas of Bangladesh coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur,  Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind driven surge of 1-3 feet height above normal astronomical tide.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north of the Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice, the bulletin added.

However, ‘Hudhud’ has slightly moved Northwestwards and started crossing north Andhra coast near Visacapattam of India at 12 noon Sunday and it may complete crossing the coast during next few hours.
