DHAKA: The diplomats of Dhaka and Delhi did not discuss anything on the issue of internal politics of Bangladesh at the India-Bangladesh High Commissioners’ Summit here.

They stressed on how to solve the unsettled issues related to the interest of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.

The diplomats also put importance on moving forward maintaining a friendly relation between the two neighboring countries.

The International Relations (IR) Department of Dhaka University (DU) and the India-Bangladesh Foundation jointly organized the two-day ‘1st India-Bangladesh High Commissioners' Summit 2014’ in city from Friday.

Over a dozen of former high commissioners of Bangladesh and India, who served in Dhaka and New Delhi in the past four decades, and a good number of economists, academics, media personalities and students, attended the summit.

A post-summit press conference was held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university at noon where the ins and outs of the summit were briefed on behalf of the organizers and the attendees.

The Dhaka Declaration was also made public on the day.

At the press conference, IR department professor Imtiaz Ahmed and Indian diplomat Deb Mukharjee responded to the journalists’ queries. A group of diplomats of the both countries were also present at the event.

Deb, at the press conference, thanked the organizers for taking this kind of initiative and stressed on necessity of arranging the summit.

He, however, told the media that nothing was discussed on the issue of Bangladesh politics during the summit.

The Indian diplomat told the conference that this kind of summit is necessary. We did not talked about any internal issues of Bangladesh.

Rather we have given emphasized how to strengthen and improve the relations between the two countries, he added.

Deb said, “For these reasons, we think that we will have to discuss the solutions of the unsettled issues related to the both countries’ interests and how the ways of solutions can be brought out.”

“Besides, the diplomats also discussed the processes of implementation of the solutions in this 1st Summit,” he added.

Earlier on Friday, Bangladesh foreign minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali inaugurated the summit at the Senate Bhaban.
