Ansar al Islam admits guilt

RAJSHAHI: Ansar al Islam Bangladesh-2, a militant outfit, has admitted the guilt of killing of Rajshahi University (RU) Sociology teacher professor Dr AKM Shafiul Islam.

The little known organization has taken the guilt on Saturday night within hours of Shafiul was killed.

The miscreants chopped RU professor to death earlier in the afternoon. Later, Ansar al Islam took the responsibility of the murder.

They, on a Facebook page created after the name of ‘Ansar al Islam Bangladesh-2’ uploaded statements of the professor and some others’ photographs terming them ‘murtads’ (infidels) with contentment over the killing of the teacher.

The page, created after the name of ‘Ansar al Islam Bangladesh-2’ following the teacher’s murder, also warned all the ‘anti-Islam’ people and non-believers of dire consequences.

Apart from professor Dr AKM Shafiul Islam, the others’, whose photographs are seen on the page, are – bloggers Rajib Haider, Ashraful Alam, Rakib Mamun and Asif Mohiuddin – and the photos of the first two along with the professor, are crossed with red marks as they have already been killed.

Though the organization is little known, police, however, have started to look into the matter from Saturday night.

Regarding the matter, Rajshahi’s Motihar Thana officer-on-charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain told banglanews that they are now looking for whether the organization exists.

“But, police have already come to know that two persons directly took part in the killing,” he added. “We are looking for them.”

He also said that the two witnesses of the murder, Hasib and Dipu, are in police custody. “We are questioning them.”
