DHAKA: The government is likely to build overpass at 1,400 rail crossing points across the country to avert mishaps beside rail tracks. 

ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, chairman of parliamentary standing committee on railway ministry, told journalists after a meeting of the committee at Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.

He said there are some 2,500 rail crossing across the country; of which, Railway Department controls 1,400 rail crossings while Roads and Highways Department and Local Government Engineering Department control the rest.

The ministry decided to construct overpasses at the crossing points those are under the ministry’s control only, he added.

Railway Minister Mujibul Haque, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Ali Asgar, Yeasin Ali and Fatema Zohra, among others, attended the meeting.
