‘Load mismanagement caused blackout’

DHAKA: The state minister for power Nasrul Hamid Bipu on Wednesday said lack of load management caused blackout across the country on November 1.

He made the assertion while addressing a press briefing Wednesday noon at secretariat in city.

On November 1, people across the country faced blackout for around 10 hours since 11:30am.

The state minister also claimed that the incident took place on that day as the existing system failed to manage load of power following a sudden reduction of electricity production.

However, the government, on that day, formed a high level investigation committee to probe the grid failure and to submit recommendations to avoid such an incident furthermore.

The committee said that the blackout happened due to the lack of adjustment between production and supply of electricity.

Nevertheless, the state minister for power informed journalists that the government will take short, medium and long-term steps in modernizing the power system to avoid this kind of failures in future.
