CHITTAGONG: A court here granted bail to Tazreen Fashions owner Delwar Hossain just after one day of sending him to prison.

Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mashfiqul Islam Delwar passed the order on Monday.

The owner of the garment factory, which was devastated by a fire in 2012 where at least 112 people, mostly workers, died and more than 200 were injured, was sent to jail earlier on charge of “money embezzlement through fraudulence”.

Court source said KDS Group official Shimul Sen, on behalf of its chairman Shamim Iqbal, sued Delwar on Dec 2013 for not paying due Tk 4,443,720. Delwar purchased accessories from KDS Accessories in 2010-2011 fiscal year.

The Tazreen Fashions owner has already handed over the advance cheques which will be payback in four installments respectively from January to April.

Confirming the matter, Delwar’s lawyer Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul told banglanews that as his client has already handed over the cheques to the plaintiff so they did not raise any objection about the release.

On the other hand, the KDS group representative of the case, Shimul Sen said that though the cheques have been given but they will still run the case till April, 2015, till getting all the moneys.
