JCD man dies in gunfight with Rab

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A local leader of Chhatra Dal, the student wing of BNP, was killed in a gunfight between his aides and members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Shyampur under Shibganj Upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Motiur Rahman, 25, vice president of union Shyampur unit Chhatra Dal, son of Usrat Rahman Montu.

RAB-5 Chapainawabganj camp commander Major Kamruzzaman Pavel confirmed the matter to banglanews.  

He said that joint forces, in a drive, detained Motiur and two others from Kansat area at around 10:00pm Thursday. Later, as per his information, RAB went to the union to recover arms and cocktails.

At one stage, Motiur’s aides hurled several cocktails at the law enforcers, forcing Rab to retaliate by firing gunshots for self-defense.

At that time, Motiur tried to flee the scene and caught line in the fire, leaving him dead on the spot.

RAB-5 personnel recovered a pistol, a revolver, two LG guns, two shutter guns, five bullets, three magazines, 17 cocktails, 10 petrol bombs and five local weapons.

However Mojibur, uncle of Motiur, said that joint forces picked up his nephew on Thursday night and later his body was found at the local thana.

Shibganj Thana Officer-in-Charge M Moinul Islam told banglanews that the body of Motiur has been kept at thana compound.

He could not inform whether Motiur was accused in any case.
