Outgoing Cuban envoy calls on FM

DHAKA: Cuban ambassador to Bangladesh Abelardo Rafael Cueto Sosa paid a farewell call on foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali at the latter’s office on Wednesday.

A press release, issued by the ministry, said.

Mahmood Ali appreciated the unequivocal support and encouragement of Cuban people and the contributions of Cuba leader Fidel Castro to the liberation war of Bangladesh.

Terming the bilateral relation between Cuba and Bangladesh as “historic” the outgoing ambassador recalled the warm friendly relations between Bangladesh Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

He also expressed his government’s interest to strengthen the bilateral relations in the days ahead, the release added.

Both sides renewed their commitments to cooperate with each other in various multilateral fora including the United Nations and expressed their hope that Bangladesh and Cuba would continue to keep up the spirit of friendship as the two countries aspire for peace and development.

Later, the FM congratulated Abelardo Rafael Cueto Sosa on the successful completion of his tour of duty and wished his personal health, happiness and success in every step of life.

Sosa joined Cuban embassy in New Delhi in 2011. He presented his credentials to Bangladesh President in February 2012 as the concurrently accredited ambassador of Cuba with residence in New Delhi.
