Oishee to hang for killing parents

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday handed down death sentence to Oishee Rahman in a case filed for killing father Special Branch (SB) inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and mother Shapna Rahman.

Of the two other accused, Oishee’s friend Asaduzzaman Jony was awarded two years’ jail for providing shelter to her after the murder and fined Tk 5,000, in default, one month’s jail.

Another friend of Oishee, Mizanur Rahman Rony, was found innocent.

Speedy Trial Tribunal (3) of Dhaka judge Sayeed Ahmed passed the verdicts at noon.

Lawyers’ said Asaduzzaman Jony will be released after completing procedures as he already has passed more than two years in jail.

Oishee and her friend Joni were produced before the court earlier in the day while another friend Rony, who was in bail, appeared in the court.

Earlier, Dhaka-3 speedy trial tribunal judge Sayeed Ahmed set the date after concluding the placement of arguments in the case on November 4.

On August 14 of 2013, SB inspector Mahfuzur and his wife Shapna were stabbed to death at their rented flat in city’s Chamelibagh area.

Police recovered their bodies on August 16. Their daughter Oishee, 19, with housemaid Sumi, 15, surrendered at Paltan police station on August 17.

Later, Oishee gave a statement under interrogation saying that she had killed her parents with the help of housemaid Sumi.

Investigators also found the involvement of two of her friends Rony and Jony in the murder case and they were arrested later.

However, finally two charge-sheets were submitted at the court to rectify the case and solve it with the trial after a lot of dramatic dimensions of the murder case.
