7 killed in Bandarban road mishap

BANDARBAN: At least seven people were killed and 11 others injured in a road accident at Yangcha area under Lama Upazila of the district Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Rajibm 45, Robin, 35, Aftab Hossain, 55, Amjad Hossain, 46, Alek Rahman, 32, Sayeed, 30 and Hasan Ali, 35.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lama Thana Sirajul Islam told banglanews that a goods-laden Fasiakhali-bound truck plunged into a roadside ditch near Yangcha army camp around 6:30am as the driver lost control over steering, leaving four dead on the spot and 14 others injured.

On information, army, police and ansar members rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and sent to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex where three succumbed to their injuries.

Truck driver managed to flee the scene, OC added.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Yangcha Police Outpost Tripal Chakma said the victims were going to Bandarban to install towers here.
