SUNAMGANJ: Water Resource Minister Barrister Aminul Islam Mahmud said the government allocated Tk 654-crore for the development of the lifestyle of the people who lives in haor areas.

The minister disclosed the matter while speaking at a rally organized by local Awami League in Akilshah Bazar area under Sunamganj’s Dirai Upazila on Friday.

Of the allotted amount, Tk 155-crore will be used in Dirai and Shalla upazilas, he said.

Surma and Kushiara rivers will be dredged so that there would not be problem for irrigation in the area, he added.

State Minister for water resource Lieutenant colonel (retd) Nazrul Islam said Bangladesh has been going ahead under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Ruling Awami League Advisory Council Member Suranjit Sengupta said the deceitful politics of BNP will not last long here.

AL leader Toffazal Hossain presided over the program where Water Resource Ministry secretary Jafar Ahmed Khan, Sylhet Judge court Additional PP Advocate Shamshul Islam were present.
