BHOLA: The residents of the southern coastal district finally got much awaited gas connections for domestic use on Wednesday – nearly two decades after a gas field was discovered here.

Petrobangla Chairman Dr Hossain Monsur inaugurated the gas connection by lighting a burner at Khanka Sharif of Jainpuri Peer Saheb around 11:00 am.

A total of 20 km area of the municipality was brought under the gas supply through a gas pipeline in the first phase of gas supply project for the district.

The people would likely to use the gas facilities for household within September 10, sources said.

The Shahbajpur gas field was discovered in 1995 and started supplying gas to Bhola 34.5-megawatt rental power plant in 2010.

Ruling Awami League Presidium Member Tofail Ahmed MP addressed the inauguration programme as chief guest.
