‘War criminals should not given chance to appeal’

DHAKA: Chairman to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Bangladesh Dr Mizanur Rahman categorically said the war criminals should not been given any chance to appeal.

He also said: “I am not informed of such rights given to war criminals around the world.”

He came up with the observations in his speech of chief guest in a conference titled ‘Trial of War Criminals and Propaganda’ arranged by Sector Commanders’ Forum at the Mukti Juddho Jadughar auditorium in the city on Saturday noon.

Dr Mizanur Rahman said: “Bangladesh has established an example by the process of war criminals trial. Bangladesh was the first country to initiate Act in this regard and recently formed International Crimes Tribunal has set an international standard for the trial.”

He also said: “We failed to employ any lobbyist though by doing so, the war criminals ran propaganda around the world. This is a failure of incumbent government.”

He also asserted that to build a glorious Bangla it is a must to complete the trial against war criminals.

With planning minister as well as the president of the forum Air vice Marshall (retd) AK Khandaker in the chair, coordinator of the prosecution additional attorney general MK Rahman, prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroz, Trustee of Muktijuddho Jadughar Mofidul Haque addressed in the conference.
