Farida Yasmin and Ilyas Khan have been elected as president and general secretary of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) respectively.
Senior Journalist Farida Yasmin has made a history by winning the Press Club elections as the first female president candidate in its 66-year history.
She got 581 votes defeating her arch rival Kamal Uddin Sabuj of the pro-BNP forum candidate who got only 395 votes.
The elections were held peacefully at National Press Club premises on Thursday.
Elias Khan, the candidate of pro-BNP forum, has been elected as the general secretary defeating Omar Faruk.
Khan bagged 566 votes while Faruk secured 399 votes.
Hasan Hafiz has been elected as the senior vice-president bagging 413 votes while Rezwan Haque Raza has been elected as the vice president getting 615 votes.
Moinul Alam and Ashraf Ali have been elected as the joint secretaries bagging 577 and 395 votes respectively.
Shahed Chowdhury has been elected as the treasure defeating Salauddin Ahmed Bablu. Chowdhury got 706 votes while Bablu bagged 267 votes.
Other officer bearers are Ayub Bhuiyan, Rezanur Rahman, Kazi Rownak Hossain, Zahiduzzaman Faruk, Shanewaz Begum Poly, Syed Abdal Ahmed, Shahnaz Siddique Soma, Bhanuranjan Chakrabarti, Rahman Mustafiz and Baktiar Rana.
