13 injured as Chhatra Dal, police clash at Lakshmipur

At least 13 people including three cops were injured in a clash between Chhatra Dal and police in Lakshmipur.

The incident took place in the Bazar Bridge area of the district town when police tried to halt Chhatra Dal's procession on Thursday (Nov 24) afternoon. 

Later, the Chhatra Dal procession was dispersed due to police obstruction. 

The injured policemen are - City Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Anisuzzaman, Constable Sofiq and Jisan.

The injured leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal were identified as Ashraf Hossain, Sajjad Hossain Shubo, Sohail, Russell Mahmud, Sabbir Hossain, Suhas Hannan, Noble Ahmed, Shawon Howlader, Shahidul Islam, Ikram, Md. Shaheen and Farooq Hossain.

However, the Chhatra Dal leaders alleged that at least eight to 10 of their workers were injured as the police restricted their peaceful procession and assaulted their activists physically.

Laxmipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mosleh Uddin confirmed the matter to Banglanews. 

He said, "Chhatra Dal leaders and activists suddenly marched out to the market which caused traffic jam in the city. When we tried to remove them, some people got angry and started chucking bricks at the police." 

Three policemen were injured. Legal action will be taken in this regard, he added.
