People lost their voting rights: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the people of the country lost their voting rights.

He said: “We have lost our right to vote...we have lost our right to speak freely...we have to fight for it.”

He came up with the statement today (Mar 26) after paying tribute to the Liberation War martyrs by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar marking the 53rd Independence and National Day.

Fakhrul claimed that the right of journalists to write the truth has also been lost.

Here authoritarian fascism is established, he added.

He also said that they are fighting for democracy under the leadership of party chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

The Secretary General of BNP further said that Bangladesh's independence was achieved through armed struggle.

BNP standing committee members Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Dhaka north city unit convener Amanullah Aman and senior leaders of the party were present at that time.
