Pro-BNP and Awami League-leaning lawyers today (August 3) scuffled with each other over the judgement of Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman in a graft case.

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, a platform of pro-BNP lawyers, held a press conference on the SC premises criticising the conviction of party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife.

They termed the conviction politically motivated one. After the press conference, they chanted the slogan “We do not support the verdict. And we demand ouster of the government.”

Meanwhile, pro-Awami League lawyers took out procession chanting anti-BNP slogans. At one stage, the two groups became face-to-face resulting in scuffle.

BNP loyalist advocates allegedly damaged the rooms of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and Secretary who are elected from pro-Awami League panel. They also removed nameplates of the duo from their respective rooms.
