The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been conducting searches at the homes of multiple senior BNP leaders since Sunday (October 29) dawn.
Earlier, DB picked up BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from his Gulshan residence in Dhaka around 9:30am and took him to its office on Minto Road in the capital.
The law enforcement agency has so far searched the residences of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Mirza Abbas, and Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal.
Besides, the family of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain alleged that police raided their Gulshan residence, and picked up his younger brother Ishfaq Hossain and driver Rajib in his absence.
However, no police officer confirmed the matter immediately.
On October 28, BNP organised its grand rally in front of its Nayapaltan central office on Saturday with the participation of thousands of leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies to press home their one-point demand for holding the upcoming national election under a non-party government.
Later, two persons including police constable Amirul Islam Parvez were killed and several others injured during the clash.
