A case has been filed today (October 29) against some 800 people of BNP, including party standing committee member Mirza Abbas, on charges of exploding cocktails to kill police and snatching weapons from law enforcers at the BNP's mass rally in Nayapaltan on Saturday.
Sub-inspector Mostafizur Rahman filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police Station in Dhaka naming some 57 people, alongside around 700-800 unnamed.
Shah Alam, Sub-Inspector (SI), Shahjahanpur Police Station confirmed the matter.
On Saturday, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir suspended the grand rally in the capital's Nayapaltan and announced the hartal.
BNP claimed that the rally was suspended as police fired rubber bullets, flash grenades and lobbed tear gas shells, forcing the BNP leaders and activists to leave the rally venue.
Till now, two people, including a police constable, were killed in the ensuing violence.
BNP, Jamaat and like-minded parties are observing the dawn to dusk countrywide hartal in protest of the recent police action during the party's Nayapaltan rally.
