Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has criticized his BNP counterpart, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, for his remark that Eid-ul-Azha does not bring any joy to ordinary people due to the exorbitant prices of all products.

Over 1.4 crore cattle were sacrificed across the country ahead of Eid-ul-Azha this year, which is higher than the number of the previous year, indicating that the BNP's data on inflation is not correct, he said.

“There is inflation no doubt, but our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working tirelessly to control it,” Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said while addressing a programme on Tuesday.

The BNP and its political partners are trying to create a Sri Lanka-like situation in the country, and they did not refrain from criticizing the government even on Eid day, Quader said.

Quader also blasted Fakhrul for his remarks on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border situation, asking him to provide clear facts on how the country’s sovereignty is affected.  

Referring to the opening of fire from the Myanmar border on a vessel along the Teknaf-Saint Martin sea route, Fakhrul said, "Can't we even say anything to a country like Myanmar?"
